↞  TAURUS SEASON • GARDENING BY THE MOON ↠

Megan Allen

It is Taurus Season! This month’s moonthly themes are: Stability | Self-Worth | Money.

Today the New Moon meets the Sun in the sign of Taurus and opens the pathway to a fresh lunar cycle.

To honor and sync with this new lunar cycle, take time to work with the grounding Earth energies of Taurus and explore the rituals below.

TAURUS NEW MOON RITUALS

⟡ Spend Time Grounding in Nature

⟡ Develop a Daily Gratitude Practice

⟡ Focus on All of the Ways you are Already Abundant

⟡ Take Responsibility for Your Finances

⟡ Make Time to Pamper Yourself with a Moon Bath Ritual

⟡ Rest + Recharge

Taurus is ruled by Venus so this is also an opportunity to beautify your life with some fresh flowers, cleansing and redecorating your space or putting on your favorite jewelry or outfit.

On May 20th, the Sun moves into the Air element of Gemini.

On May 26th, we get to witness the Full Moon Total Lunar Eclipse in the sign of Sagittarius. A Total Lunar Eclipse occurs when the Earth’s umbra, the central dark part of its shadow, obscures all of the Moon’s surface.

Join me in community for an online Full Moon ceremony that evening to celebrate the Total Lunar Eclipse, journal and meditate!

GARDENING BY THE MOON

Calling all gardeners! You have probably noticed how your flowers, plants and trees grow through cycles as the seasons change, but have you considered how the phases of the moon affect your vegetation and crops?

There are many factors to take into consideration when gardening by the moon. Check out the tips below to learn about the moon phases and their related gravitational pull and light as well as the sign of the moon and the related element of that sign. You can replace the moon phases with the seasons (the New Moon is equivalent to Winter) and you have a seasonal guide too!

AM: In the mornings the Earth exhales, allowing sap and water to rise. This is the best time of day to harvest plants with edible parts above ground as leafy greens are full and plump. This is also the best time to apply plant food.

PM: In the evenings the Earth Inhales, drawing sap down to the roots and soil. This is the best time for day to sow seeds, harvest root crops, dig soil prep for planting and spread compost.

MOON PHASES, GRAVITY + MOONLIGHT

Wealth of Information adapted from the incredible Magic of I.

NEW MOON: Strong Gravity | No Light

  • New Beginnings.

  • Light starts to increase and the gravity from the moon pulls water up which aids in germination, seeds swell.

  • Best time to plant above ground plants that produce seeds outside of the fruit, such as lettuce, cabbage and grains.

  • Pair with the signs/elements for optimum plant types.

1ST QUARTER/ WAXING MOON: Less Gravity | More Light

  • Momentum.

  • Increasing light from the growing moon is good for leaf growth.

  • Best time to plant above ground plants that produce seeds inside of fruits like beans, melons, pease, squash and tomatoes.

FULL MOON: Strong Gravity | Full Light

  • The Peak.

  • Water tables rise, every is drawn down to the roots.

  • After the moon has peaked the light starts to decrease which is good for root growth.

  • Plant root crops such as beets, carrots, onions and potatoes.

  • Good phase to transplant any type of plant.

3RD QUARTER/ WANING MOON: Less Gravity | Less Light

  • Release + Pause.

  • A time of rest and maintenance. Weed, prune, fertilize and graft during the 3rd quarter.

  • The dark moon (a few days before the New Moon) is a dormant period. It is the death of the old before the start of the new.

  • Rest and take a break from garden work or do prep work for fertile times.

ELEMENTS + MOON SIGNS

FIRE SIGNS: FRUITS + SEEDS

  • Aries | Leo | Sagittarius

  • Fire Element is dry and barren. Use these signs for fruit and crops grown for their seed. Prune fruit trees and weed the garden.

  • Pair with the 3rd Quarter Moon for harvesting to preserve fruit and vegetables for storage.

EARTH SIGNS: ROOTS

  • Taurus | Virgo | Capricorn

  • Earth Element is very fertile and great for planting. Earth signs are associated with roots, especially good for underground crops and for transplanting to encourage root development.

  • Pair with the Full Moon.

AIR SIGNS: FLOWERS

  • Gemini | Libra | Aquarius

  • Air Element can be dry and barren. Libra is an exception (ruled by Venus) and is semi-fertile and good for blooming flowers and herbs, vines, tubers and roots. Gemini for melons. Aquarius for onions.

  • Good time to harvest and cultivate the soil.

WATER SIGNS: LEAVES

  • Cancer | Scorpio | Pisces

  • Water Element is moist and fertile, the best days to plant all plants. Great for above ground bearing, leafy annuals such as lettuce, spinach and chard. Water plants deeply for optimum nourishment.

  • Pair with New, 1st Quarter and Full Moons.

HAPPY GARDENING BY THE MOONLIGHT ✨
